Portable digital esophageal stethoscope system

Abstract: Heart sound occurs when the heart contracts and expands. It provides information on myocardial contractility and blood vessels, which is not obtainable from ECG. For this reason, stethoscopy of heart sound in anesthesiology is a very crucial means for acquiring cardiac information and preventing intraoperative medical accidents, and it requires a system for precise objective measurement and analysis of heart sound and murmur. Thus, this study purposed to develop portable digital esophageal stethoscope (PDES) t… Show more

“…A patient under general anesthesia is monitored by using a variety of techniques to observe the effect of the anesthetic and to safeguard the patient against progression into adverse conditions [1]. Auscultating heart sound and lung sound using an esophageal stethoscope, which is medical equipment for auscultation or listening to internal heart and lung sounds, is a simple, inexpensive, and much more noise-free method to provide information about cardiac sounds, but it requires highly experienced and practiced anesthetists to obtain accurate results [2]. Thus, there have been many studies on developing digital esophageal stethoscope systems that can accurately measure heart and lung sound signals.…”

“…Concerning the market, some systems already exist but have lots of limitation as the diagnostic and the telemedicine phases (Bai and Lu, 2005;Pawar and Chaskar, 2014;Wang et al, 2009;Shin et al, 2011). Added to that, referring to eBay.com (2016, their prices are high.…”
