The incidence of acquired impaired fasting glucose or diabetes was significantly higher in obese or overweight patients than those without overweight (56.9% vs. 51.4%, p <0.001), but the incidence remained substantial in the latter group. Conclusions: The incidents of obesity and overweight increase significantly in both diabetic and non-diabetic new PD patients in Hong Kong over the past 25 years. The incident of new-onset glucose intolerance or diabetes also increased during this period in non-diabetic PD patients, especially amongst obese or overweight ones. The prognostic implication and impacts on the healthcare system deserve further studies.
