Positive Effects of Music Lessons Given in Special Education Classes Affiliated to the Ministry of National Education on Students

Abstract

Like every student, music education has a completely different importance and meaning among the education that students receiving special education receive. It is also very important that the lessons are productive in order to increase the positive effect of music lessons, which are extremely important for the physical and mental development of students, on these students. For this reason, when making educational plans in music lessons, great attention should be paid to the physical environment, student characteristics and material selection, and constant feedback should be received. Dividing individuals in need of Special Education into various categories makes it necessary to limit the studies on the subject. Naturally, a limitation was made in this study and the population of the study consisted of students with mild mental illness, autism and Down syndrome. In this study, where qualitative research methods are used, it is aimed to determine the positive effects of music lessons on special education students, to exchange ideas on how the positive effects contributed by the effect of music can be increased, and to put forward some opinions about what kind of music education students should receive for their cognitive and physical development.
