Possibilities of kinesio taping to prevent injuries of professional dancers

Abstract: A literature review of the application of kinesio taping in the prevention of professional dancers' injuries indicated frequent dance-related and overuse injuries and a lack of organized information about this issue. This study aimed to assess the impact of kinesio taping on the musculoskeletal system of dancers, based on scientific research data from 2015-2017. The analysis revealed that kinesio taping can effectively reduce muscle spasms, rebuild muscle strength of the injured extremity, improve static and d… Show more

“…While some studies support that tissue tension can be decreased, and proprioception can be increased due to the inhibition of tissues by reducing the pressure on muscle, tendons, ligament, and nerve tissues, others support that there is no effect of KT both on eccentric and concentric muscle strength and joint proprioception (9)(10)(11)(12). Furthermore, some studies suggest that KT applications may reduce dance-related injuries associated with overuse in dance populations (13). However, there is a limited number of studies that investigated the effect of KT application dance population, especially in social dance.…”

“…For the patient -reported parameters i.e, pain at rest, pain at 50m sprint, the main effects were significant for the time but not for groups. Where as some of the studies Kachanathu et al (2018) [27] showed that the both groups benefited from the intervention but the response to Kinesio tape was better than that of orthotics and some studies Athanasiadis et al (2019) [28] showed that there is further need to investigate the effectiveness of taping methods on ankle proprioception in a population with ankle musculoskeletal injuries and pathology.…”

“…Below, there are listed some reports on the change in muscle strength in athletes, after the KT method application. Hsu et al [14] examined baseball players with the subacromial impingement syndrome. They assessed strength changing in ascending part of quadratus femoris, before and after the application of Kinesiology Taping, using a hand-held dynamometer.…”
