Possible effects of the Agaricus brasiliensis extract on the cardiac morphology in mice

Abstract: Introduction: Mushroom extracts are used, mainly due to immunomodulatory and antitumor proprierties. Among the general and species is the Agaricus brasiliensis or SunMushroom. However herbal remedies can cause changes in morphology and functionality of various organs. Therefore, these reporters need to be analyzed for applicability of this compound. The aim of the present study was to analyze the structural characteristics of the heart of Swiss mice employing light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy m… Show more

“…Polysaccharides obtained from edible mushrooms, such as Lentinus edodes (shiitake) and Agaricus brasiliensis (sun mushroom), are also widely studied for their biological effects (LESSNA et al, 2015;LIMA et al, 2010;LIMA et al, 2013;MARTINS et al, 2008). Martins et al (2008) reported that the polysaccharide-rich fraction of A. brasiliensis increased the microbicidal activity of macrophages against Candida albicans, stimulating hydrogen peroxide production and mannose receptor expression by peritoneal macrophages, which is important for non-opsonized microorganism attachment and phagocytosis.…”

“…Considering the nutritional and medicinal value of mushrooms and their widespread use by populations, Lessna et al (2015) evaluated the effect of chronic use of sun mushroom extracts (A. brasiliensis) on the cardiac morphology of mice, and reported no morphological or structural changes that might suggest organ toxicity. The storage of natural extracts is another critical aspect in the context of medicinal use by populations.…”
