Possible manifestation of large-scale transverse oscillations of coronal loops in solar microwave emission

Abstract: Aims. We interpret long-periodic (minutes) modulations detected in solar microwave emission during flaring events as signatures of large-scale transverse oscillations of coronal loops. Methods. Our data analysis method is based methodologically on a sliding-window Fourier transform combined with the VignerWille technique. We analyze three different events where TRACE detected post-flare oscillating loops (on Mar. 23, 2000; Sep. 15, 2001; Sep. 07, 2001) Results. For the transverse large-scale oscillatory mot… Show more

“…Evidence of kink oscillations of coronal loops has recently been found with the use of the radio observations (e.g. Inglis & Nakariakov 2009;Khodachenko et al 2011;Mossessian & Fleishman 2012;Kupriyanova et al 2013;Zaqarashvili et al 2013). The typical periods of these oscillations are several minutes, and the displacement amplitude is typically several Mm (see De Moortel & Nakariakov 2012;Liu & Ofman 2014, for recent comprehensive reviews).…”

“…Also, kink waves can produce modulation of gyrosynchrotron emission (e.g. Khodachenko et al 2011;Kupriyanova et al 2013). Kink waves are observed as standing (e.g.…”

“…It has been applied for examination of solar QPPs e.g. in Khodachenko et al (2011);Kislyakov et al (2006). By definition, the Wigner-Ville analysis is the Fourier transform of the central covariance function, hence, it has all of the constraints described above too.…”
