Abstract:Human mitochondria require ~1500 proteins for its constitutive functions. However, the mitochondrial genome is gene deficient and most of the mitochondrial proteome is nuclear encoded and transported into the organelle. Import of majority of mitochondrial proteome is mediated by presequence pathway and requires functional interplay between a subset of molecular chaperones, along with accessory factors. Although detailed analysis has been carried out in yeast system, our understanding of human mitochondrial pro… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
