In the songbird NCM, neurons with different spiking kinetics, including GABAergic interneurons, are specialized for certain aspects of auditory processing (Pinaud & Mello, ; Schneider & Woolley, ; Asik & Kirn, ; Ono, Okanoya, & Seki, ; Yanagihara & Yazaki‐Sugiyama, ) and GABAergic neurons are active when birds hear songs (Pinaud & Mello, ).
