Post-synthesis bromination of benzene bridged PMO as a way to create a high potential hybrid material

Abstract: Periodic mesoporous organosilicas provide the best of two worlds: the strength and porosity of an inorganic framework combined with the infinite possibilities created by the organic bridging unit. In this work we focus on post-synthetical modification of benzene bridged PMO, in order to create bromobenzene PMO. In the past, this proved to be very challenging due to unwanted structural deterioration. However, now we have found a way to brominate this material whilst keeping the structure intact. In-depth struct… Show more

“…Epoxidation, Friedel–Crafts, and Diels–Alder reactions were also described. Benzene‐bridged PMO NPs were nitrated, aminated, brominated, and sulfonated, to name a few (Figure b) . A wide array of click chemistry couplings were applied to functionalize effectively mesoporous organosilica materials as recently reviewed by Cattoën and co‐workers Wong Chi Man and co‐workers fabricated a library of organosilanes for click chemistry purposes .…”

“…for C 7 H 3 Br 2 NO: 276.92, found 277. So far, in view of www.bosaljournals/chemint/ editorci@bosaljournals.com good yield, the method under study could possibly be used for bromination purpose, which is efficient, eco-friendly and fast methods versus chemical methods (Aborways and Moran, 2016;Huybrechts et al, 2016;Ishii et al, 2016;Mendoza et al, 2016;Pomarico et al, 2016;Primerano et al, 2016).…”

“…The uniform-sized benzene-bridged PMO nanoparticles were fabricated using Pluronic F127 as the surfactant template and BTEB as a silica source in an acidic environment [12,21]. Initially, KCl, TMB, and Pluronic F127 were added to a hydrogen chloride solution (HCl, 2 M, 40 • C).…”

“…These organo-bridged silsesquioxane ((R O) 3 Si-R-Si(R O) 3 )-integrated mesoporous silica frameworks, often denoted as periodic mesoporous organosilica (PMOs), offer enormous advantages. One such advantage is the provision of true active sites for subsequent surface functionalization towards guiding the encapsulation of guest species [10,[12][13][14][15][16]. These innovative organo-bridged inorganic nanocomposites greatly changed the MSN characteristics, including enhanced physicochemical attributes and biocompatible properties, by decreasing the siloxane contact [17].…”
