Post‐traumatic disorder symptom severity in the perspective of hierarchical taxonomy of psychopathology spectra and dysfunctional personality domains among trauma‐exposed community‐dwelling women

Abstract: To assess the relationships between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) components, Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) spectra, and dysfunctional personality domains, the Post-Traumatic Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5); the Personality Inventory for DSM-5-Brief Form+ (PID-5BF+); and self-report measures of HiTOP Internalizing, Thought Disorders, and Externalizing spectra were administered to 387 trauma-exposed Italian communitydwelling women. Before structural equation modeling (SEM), measurement co… Show more

“…53 A thought disorder factor has previously been associated with poor mental health, particularly physical abuse and intrusive memories following trauma. [54][55][56][57][58] Methylome-wide analyses identified opposing patterns of DNA methylation, on average, when comparing the MDD and control groups, we identified when examining the approximately 40,000 sites nominally associated with traumatic injury. This pattern was most prominent at the first exon and exon boundaries, despite a significant underrepresentation of differentially methylated sites at the 1st exon in the MDD group.…”

“…[55] A thought disorder factor has also been associated with poor mental health, particularly physical abuse, and intrusive memories following trauma. [56][57][58][59][60] SPQ and thought disorder are related symptoms psychosis, but are not common in MDD, suggesting that the phenotype is suitable for the detection of the effects of trauma.…”

“…More so than other purported internalizing distress disorders (e.g., GAD), PTSD tends to show meaningful associations with noninternalizing domains of psychopathology. This is seen in both the HiTOP literature (M. K. Forbes et al., 2017, 2021; Levin‐Aspenson et al., 2021; Somma et al., 2022) and the broader PTSD literature (e.g., Deering et al., 1996; Lockwood & Forbes, 2014). For example, Deering et al.…”
