The Europeanisation of candidate countries and new members is a rather recent research area that has grown strongly since the early 2000s. Research in this area has developed primarily in the context of the EU's eastern enlargement. A small number of theoretically informed book-length studies of the EU's influence on the Central and Eastern European candidate countries have provided a generalisable conceptual framework for this research area, drawing on the debate between rationalist institutionalist and constructivist institutionalist approaches in International Relations and Comparative Politics. This framework makes these studies highly compatible with analyses of the Europeanisation of member states, with which they also share one key empirical finding, namely that the impact of the EU on candidate countries is differential across countries and issue areas. At the same time, the theoretical implications of these findings appear more clear-cut than in the case of the Europeanisation of member states: rationalist institutionalism, with its focus on the external incentives underpinning EU conditionality and the material costs incurred by domestic veto players, appears well-suited to explaining variation in the patterns of Europeanisation in candidate countries. A very recent development within this research agenda is the focus on the Europeanisation of new member states. While the study of the EU's impact during the early years of membership was hitherto primarily a subfield of analyses of the Europeanisation of member states, it has now become an extension of studies of candidate countries by analysing the impact of accession on the dynamics of pre-accession Europeanisation and how durable and distinctive the patterns of candidate Europeanisation are in the post-accession stage.

Većina poruka koje su prethodile referendumu u drugim postkomunističkim zemljama imala je izuzetno proeuropsko usmjerenje, a etablirane političke stranke, ako i nisu aktivno podržavale ulazak u EU, nisu iskazivale stavove protivne ulasku u EU (Beichelt, 2004;Szcszerbiak i Taggart, 2004).…”

Sažetak rad analizira utjecaj odnosa prema nacionalnoj politici na podršku ulasku u eU, na hrvatskom referendumu o pristupanju održanom u siječnju 2012. Kontekst u kojem se odvijalo hrvatsko pristupanje eU karakterizirala je politička uvjetovanost vezana uz naslijeđe rata i odnosa sa susjedima, nedostatak jasne vizije hrvatskih elita o ulozi unutar eU i budućem smjeru razvoja Unije, percepcija ekonomske krize kao prije svega domaćeg fenomena te proeuropska pozicija politič-kih elita i medija. U takvim uvjetima na odnos hrvatskih građana prema eU prije svega utječe njihov odnos prema nacionalnim političkim elitama i institucijama. rad provjerava ovu hipotezu koristeći podatke prikupljene anketnim istraživanjem provedenim neposredno prije održavanja referenduma o pristupanju eU. analiza provedena multinominalnom logističkom regresijom pokazuje da povjerenje u političke institucije i percepcija političke djelotvornosti imaju najznačajniji utjecaj na odnos prema europskoj uniji. analiza također pokazuje da socioekonomski činitelji i procjene ekonomskog stanja nemaju značajan utjecaj na odnos hrvatske javnosti prema eU.Ključne riječi europska unija, pristupni proces, referendum, povjerenje, političke institucije, politička efikasnost UvodPristupanje Hrvatske Europskoj uniji odvijalo se u bitno drugačijem kontekstu od pristupanja drugih zemalja člani-ca iz srednje i istočne Europe. The purpose of the paper is to describe changes in support for the four principal political options (‘right’, ‘left’, ‘liberal’, ‘peasant’) available in the Kraków Metropolitan Area (KMA) in parliamentary elections in the period 1993–2011. The electoral behaviour of the residents of the various KMA zones became increasingly similar in the study period. The political ‘distance’ between the northern commuter zone of the KMA (part of the Russian partition in the 19th c.) and the rest of the KMA, decreased significantly. The suburban zone of Kraków also changed over the course of the study period by becoming significantly similar to the city in terms of voting behaviour. This political change was largely due to substantial social and economic changes in the rural parts of the metropolitan area. Urban areas in the KMA were much more stable in their voting patterns and tended to politically resemble one another much more than rural areas. The city of Kraków and the southern part of its commuter zone – part of the Austrian partition in the 19th c. – were characterized by fewer fluctuations in voting behaviour than the two remaining parts of the KMA.
