“…19 In this study we investigated speci c skin tones, regardless of race, and found similar results that FST types III-V were associated with greater tumor thickness and larger basal diameter, as compared to FST type I and II. This nding correlates with the results from the Asian Indian reports as the majority of Asian Indians in our study were classi ed as FST type III-V. 9,10,19 Caucasians and Northern Europeans with blue or green irides present more commonly with UM than those with brown iris color. [11][12][13] In our study, we examined the relationship of individual iris color with tumor thickness and tumor basal diameter and found no association between these factors.…”

“…10 Kapoor et al studied 321 Asian Indian patients with posterior UM based on the 8th edition of AJCC classi cation and noted that the majority (66%) of patients belonged to the T3 (39%) or T4 (27%) categories. 19 In that study, Asian Indians demonstrated a higher AJCC T category compared to Shields et al study of 7554 Caucasians with UM (T3 39% vs. 20.4% and T4 27% vs. 6.3% ). 19 In this study we investigated speci c skin tones, regardless of race, and found similar results that FST types III-V were associated with greater tumor thickness and larger basal diameter, as compared to FST type I and II.…”

“…et al studied the accuracy of the 8th edition of the AJCC Classification on Asian Indians and found later presentation with more T3 (39%) and T4 cases (26%) and a lower mean age of presentation [26]. Distant metastasis estimates at 5 years were 0%, 0%, 7%, and 13% for T categories T1-4, and the survival rates were 96%, 92%, 81%, and 70% [26]. These values were noted by the authors to be higher than those seen in Caucasian populations, as seen in studies such as Shields CL.…”
