“…Peripheral nerve blocks have been shown to decrease the need for post-operative opioids in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction (p=0.048) and decrease hospital stay (p<0.001), improve range of motion (p=0.008), and decrease self-reported pain scores in the first three post-operative days in total knee arthoplasty and total hip arthroplasty (p<0.001) [ 43 , 44 ]. While peripheral nerve blocks have been shown to help improve post-operative pain, they are not perfect and have been shown to be associated with rebound pain which has the potential to patient dissatisfaction and avoidable hospital resource utilization [ 45 ].
