Potency of Endophytic and Rhizospheric Bacteria of Akar Kucing (Acalypha indica Linn.) as Antibacteria against Klebsiella pneumoniae

Abstract: The prevalence of pneumonia in Indonesia was 2% in 2018. Treatment of pneumonia using antibiotics caused resistance to pathogenic bacteria. Endophytic and rhizospheric bacteria from the medicinal plant Acalypha indica Linn., is a new type of bacteria that produces antibacterial compounds against Klebsiella pneumoniae. This study aims to analyze the potency and identify endophytic and rhizospheric bacteria of the A. indica Linn as an antibacterial of K. pneumoniae. The research includes isolation and purificati… Show more

“…Antimicrobial metabolites serve as potential alternatives that can hinder resistance to drugs for instance, extracts of endophytic fungi isolated from leaves, roots and barks of S. alba can restrict the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Candida albicans (Chatterjee and Abraham 2020). Like the host plants, endophytic and rhizosphere microorganisms yield bioactive compounds or secondary metabolites as a result of coevolution (Rhamawati 2021); thus, mangroves can be a rich reservoir of potential bioactive substances.…”

“…Antibacterial chemicals are produced by a novel bacterium found in the endophytic and rhizospheric regions of the medicinal plant Acalypha indica Linn. Rhizosphere bacterial strain RU112B and RU315B were the most effective at preventing K. pneumoniae from growing (Rahmawati, 2021).…”
