Potential Analysis of Rice Straw as an Alternative Energy Source for Substitute Coal in Indonesia

Abstract: The study of the potential of rice straw was conducted to determine the potential energy of rice straw available as substitute energy sources of coal in Indonesia. The statistical data of rice production Indonesia in 2001-2012, used to analysis of the development potential of rice straw each year. Province are analyzed by 27 provinces have greater rice production of 100,000 tons per year. The analysis showed that the potential of rice straw and potential electrical energy increased by approximately 36.8 % over… Show more

“…where RSt = rice straw produced overall rice production obtained by (Eq.1), RSi = rice straw as raw material for small industries, RSa= rice straw for animal feed, RSw = rice straw as waste. Determination of potential energy of RH surplus can be done based on previous study [6][7], by the equation:…”

“…Rice straw production in Indonesia reaches 2.0 to 3.9 tons of dry weight (bk) per ha per harvest, or about 4.0 to 7.8 tons per ha per year [2]. Along with the development of rice production, the potential for straw in Indonesia is very large and continues to increase by around 3.1% per year [3]. Referring to the figures given by Abraham et al (2016) [4], the potential for Indonesian rice straw in 2017 is between 81.38 million tons to 122.07 million tons.…”
