Background: Patients with dyslipidemia are usually multimorbid and require polypharmacy. Therefore, it is important to identify potential drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) in time to prevent their consequences. We aimed to identify and analyze risk factors contributing to their occurrence to guide health professionals. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study of 216 outpatients with dyslipidemia was conducted from May 2021 to April 2022 in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. pDDIs were identified using Medscape, Epocra- tes, and Drugs online interaction checkers. Multivariate regression analysis was performed to evaluate the po- tential predictors of interactions. Results: pDDIs were detected in 212 (98.1%) participants, whereas pDDIs with high clinical significance were detected in 25.46%, 40.74%, and 58.8% of subjects by Drugs, Epocrates, and Medscape, respectively. Polypharmacy emerged as a risk factor for the occurrence of pDDIs in all three checkers in each category of clinical significance. The use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and antiplatelet drugs contributes to the incidence of severe pDDIs B=1.014, 95%CI 0.681-1.346, P=0.000 and B=0.492, 95%CI 0.286-0.698, P=0.000, by Epocrates and Medscape respectively. The number of prescribers per patient was a protective factor against moderate pDDI B= -0.858, 95%CI -1.572-(-0.144), P=0.019 and B= -0.956, 95%CI -1.671-(- 0.241), P=0.009, by Medscape and Epocrates, respectively, but a risk factor for the occurrence of minor pDDIs B=0.373, 95%CI 0.033-0.712 P=0.032 and B=0.143, 95%CI 0.042-0.244, P=0.006, by the same checkers. Conclusion: Knowledge of the risk factors contributing to the occurrence of pDDIs is important for the development and implementation of strategies for their prevention, and given the high prevalence of dyslipidemia, understanding these factors seems crucial nowadays.

Purpose COVID-19 lockdown changed social habits and lifestyle, including dietary habits, of people worldwide. However, limited information is available about these changes in Egypt. This cross-sectional study investigates the effects of COVID-19 lockdown on dietary habits among the Egyptian populations. Methods An online questionnaire, based on sociodemographic data and dietary adherence in accordance with the validated PREDIMED MedDiet Adherence Screener (MEDAS), was used all over the Egyptian governorates. The dietary changes were statistically evaluated for significance in relation to age, gender, body mass index (BMI), education level and governorates. Results A total of 1010 participants (76% aged below 36 years, 77% female, 22% obese, and 62% university-level education) answered the questionnaire. Respondents ≤ 20 years had a significant increase in weight and consumption of carbonated beverages, commercial pastries, fried and fast food. Egyptians > 50 years old had a significant decrease in physical activity. Underweight people (less than 3% of participants) increased their fast food intake with a prominent rise in weight. However, obese people increased cooking frequency and increased eating times with a decrease in physical activity. Male participants reported increased intake of carbonated beverages and fast food, while female participants increased the intake of homemade pastries with a significant decrease in physical activity. Approximately 50% of participants with postgraduate education reported decreased intake of fast food and carbonated beverages as well as decreased body weight. Residents of Cairo showed a significant increase in vegetable intake, and fried food intake with a decrease in seafood consumption. Participants from the Delta region had a significant increase in pastries intake. Conclusion The findings of this study explored the need for increasing awareness about healthy lifestyle in future lockdown periods.

Background Pharmacists have an important role in preventing prescribing errors and providing appropriate information. They can detect potential drug–drug interactions (DDIs), which are associated with a more extended hospital stay and higher medical costs that lead to substantial financial burdens on healthcare systems. This study aimed to evaluate and assess the knowledge of community and hospital pharmacists toward drug–drug interaction and their attitude and motivation to find DDI information, in addition to identifying the pharmacist factors affecting this knowledge. A cross-sectional multicenter study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire. Nineteen drug pairs, that are common in clinical practice, were evaluated. This study aimed to evaluate and assess the knowledge of community and hospital pharmacists toward drug–drug interaction and their attitude and motivation to find DDI information, in addition to identifying the pharmacist factors affecting this knowledge. Results A total of 4363 pharmacists (2260 community pharmacists and 2103 hospital pharmacists) have completed the survey. The participants' knowledge of DDIs was 58.25%, and there was no significant difference in pharmacist knowledge between community and hospital pharmacists (p = 0.834). The highest correct answer was for sildenafil and isosorbide mononitrate pair 78.8%. The most used source of information was the internet or mobile applications, 47.1%. Participants who always considered PDDIs while prescribing detected more drug interactions than those who did not (p = 0.001). Conclusion According to the findings of this study, community and hospital pharmacists had comparable knowledge of DDIs. However, before dispensing uncommon prescriptions, they should consult evidence-based drug information resources and DDI software to identify potential drug interactions.
