Potential Drug-Drug Interactions in Heart Failure Patients

Abstract: Objective:The aim of the present study was to assess the prevalence, risk rating and the severity of hazardous pDDIs (potential drug-drug interactions) in the prescribed pharmacotherapy in the hospital discharged heart failure (HF) patients, primarily with co-administered drugs with narrow therapeutic index (statins, anticoagulants, antithrombotic drugs). Methods:The prescriptions of chronic heart failure patients for one year (January-December 2014) were analyzed for pDDIs through Lexi-interact ® software. DD… Show more

“…and can significantly harm the patient's health. 17,20,21 Pharmacokinetic drug interactions occur when a drug alters absorption, distribution or elimination (disposition) of a simultaneously administered drug, leading to changes in its plasma concentration levels. 5 As mentioned in the result section, relatively small amount of pPKDDIs (216 or 12,4% of all pDDIs) were recognized by the software program.…”

“…A review of patient prescriptions for potential adverse drug-drug interactions should be performed by using a proper software and/or clinical pharmacists experienced in drug interactions. In addition, it is necessary to monitor patients' responses and related side effects to find adverse interaction reactions [13].…”
