Eustrongylides spp. is considered a freshwater fish zoonotic nematode. In the present study, the prevalence of Eustrongylides spp. in six edible fish (European perch - Perca fluviatilis, goldfish - Carassius auratus, largemouth black bass - Micropterus salmoides, tench- Tinca tinca, carp - Cyprinus carpio and sand smelt - Atherina boyeri) of Trasimeno lake was surveyed. The investigations were conducted from October 2014 to September 2015 and 384 specimens per species for each season were caught in Trasimeno lake and examined for the presence of larvae in the abdominal cavity and muscle. The presence of nematodes in the abdominal cavity and musculature was revealed in three fish species. The prevalence of Eustrongylides spp. infection was 6.84, 1.89 and 0.13% in perch, largemouth black bass and sand smelt, respectively. The number of parasites per fish was only one in largemouth black bass and sand smelt and ranged from one up to three in perch. This study states that the European perch, largemouth black bass and sand smelt of Trasimeno lake are infected with zoonotic parasites; therefore, food business operators have to take appropriate measures to guarantee the health of consumers.

BackgroundThe invasive alien species may lead to great environmental and economic crisis due to its strong capability of occupying the biological niche of native species and altering the ecosystem of the invaded area. However, its potential to serve as the vectors of some specific zoonotic pathogens, especially parasites, has been neglected. Thus, the damage that it may cause has been hugely underestimated in this aspect, which is actually an important public health problem. This paper aims to discuss the current status of zoonotic parasites carried by invasive alien species in China.Main bodyThis review summarizes the reported zoonotic parasites carried by invasive alien species in China based on the Database of Invasive Alien Species in China. We summarize their prevalence, threat to human health, related reported cases, and the roles of invasive alien species in the life cycle of these parasites, and the invasion history of some invasive alien species. Furthermore, we sum up the current state of prevention and control of invasive alien species in China, and discuss about the urgency and several feasible strategies for the prevention and control of these zoonoses under the background of booming international communications and inevitable globalization.ConclusionsInformation of the zoonotic parasites carried by invasive alien species neither in China or worldwide, especially related case reports, is limited due to a long-time neglection and lack of monitoring. The article presents the results of the research concerning the morphological changes in the blood of the predatory fish species (perch, pike and zander) сaused by nematodical parasitic disease -eustrongylidosis. The research has been conducted in [2014][2015][2016][2017][2018]. It has been found that in the blood of perch with eustrongylidosis the hemoglobin and the red-blood-cell count decreased by 6.87 and 42.11 respectively, the white-blood-cell count increased by 8.95%; the basophils and pseudobasophils count -by 129.17%; the eosinophils and pseudoeosinophils count -by 131%; the number of band and segmented neutrophils increased by 27.92 and 37.5% respectively; the young neutrophils were not registered; the number of monocytes -by 16.34%; the lymphocyte count reduced by 3.27% in contrast with a fish that were not sick with the disease. The significant morphological changes in the blood of pikes with eustrongylidosis were also observed. Thus, the hemoglobin concentration, the number of red blood cells and lymphocytes decreased by 11.02, 26.32 and 3.16% respectively. The total leukocytes count increased by 22.02%; the basophils and pseudobasophils count -by 114%; the eosinophils and pseudoiesinophils count -by 95.83%; the number of band and segmented neutrophils increased by 1.71 and 46.72% respectively; a reduction of the young neutrophil granulocytes amount to 26% was noted; the number of monocytes of the blood increased by 25.83% in contrast with pikes that were not affected by the eustrongylidosis. A reduction of the red-bloodcell and lymphocytes amount, as well as hemoglobin concentration -to 30.05, 4.4 та 6.3% respectively was observed in hematological screening of the blood of zanders. The amount of leukocytes in the blood of infested fish increased by 10.6%; the basophils and pseudobasophils count -by 69.23%; the eosinophils and pseudoeosinophils count -by 116.67%; the number of band and segmented neutrophils increased by 15.58 and 23.27% respectively; the elevation of the number of young neutrophils to 5.75% was registered; the number of monocytes increased by 17.46% in contrast with zanders that were not infested.
