Potential predictors for health-related quality of life in stroke patients undergoing inpatient rehabilitation

Abstract: BackgroundImproving HRQOL is the desired outcome for patients with stroke undergoing inpatient rehabilitation services. This study aimed to comprehensively identify the potential health-related quality of life (HRQOL) predictors in patients with stroke undergoing inpatient rehabilitation within the first year after stroke; thus far, such an investigation has not been conducted.MethodsWe enrolled 119 patients (88 males, 31 females) with stroke, and examined 12 potential predictors: age, sex, stroke type, stroke… Show more

“…Self-assessments encourage subjectivity and can lift the role and status of the patients from passive recipients to active participants. 3,10,[19][20][21] How self-assessed functions associate with perceived participation is not well known, and there is a knowledge gap concerning factors that influences the level of experienced participation over time. 15,17 It is also important that persons with stroke feel that their perceptions are important for the research field.…”

“…However, our higher-resolution tests of enslaving and synergy indicated increased enslaving, or reduced finger individuation, and impaired anticipatory aspects of coordination. While clinical tests of impairment are often not strong predictors of functional independence, especially in cases of mild impairment (Chen et al, 2015) more precise measures of finger coordination such as enslaving and synergy indices might prove more predictive of functional independence. Further research is necessary to test this hypothesis.…”

“…Also, chronic lung disease is one of the most common medical conditions among chemical affected victims (Saeed, 2014). Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) has influenced largely the economic and social relations (Hyphantis, 2014) and SF-36 is now used widely for assessment of HRQOL (Chen, 2015). One of the concerns of employees is workplace hazards that may affect their quality of life (15) because occupational injuries and diseases lead to different complications that even affect everyday life.…”
