Power allocation, bit loading and sub-carrier bandwidth sizing for OFDM-based cognitive radio

Abstract: The function of the Radio Resource Management module of a Cognitive Radio (CR) system is to evaluate the available resources and assign them to meet the Quality of Service (QoS) objectives of the Secondary User (SU), within some constraints on factors which limit the performance of the Primary User (PU). While interference mitigation to the PU spectral band from the SU's transmission has received a lot of attention in recent literature; the novelty of our work is in considering a more realistic and effective a… Show more

“…The technique has used standard decode and forward relay mechanism in order to enhance the capacity of the transmission. Exactly similar direction of the work was also adopted in the study of Thumar et al [29] where an iterative algorithm for power allocation as well as controlling of channel capacity has been presented. The authors have raised the problem of non-linearity in the optimization approach.…”

“…In all papers, authors introduced an algorithm to allot maximum bits to symbol based on allocated power with considering all constraints in Equation ( 12) and Equation (7). In [14], [20] and [21] authors introduced three algorithms for allocating discrete bits to each subcarrier. Now, a novel suboptimal bit loading algorithm is introduced in this section.…”

“…Due to the burden of computation for optimal solution including eigenvalues calculation and sort algorithm [14], a low complexity suboptimal algorithm by tracking the interference and parabola power allocation is proposed in the next part to cope with this problem.…”
