Power‐assisted rotary cutter with negative pressure suction through small incision for axillary osmidrosis

Abstract: Background: The glandular fluid secreted by apocrine sweat glands is decomposed by parasitic bacteria on the skin surface and releases a bad smell called axillary osmidrosis. Objective: To evaluate the effect of power-assisted rotary cutter with negative pressure suction through small incision for axillary osmidrosis. Methods: From January 2017 to January 2022, 647 patients with axillary osmidrosis underwent power-assisted rotary cutter with negative pressure suction through small incision surgery to treat for a… Show more

“…Suction curettage is limited by incision and instruments, and the therapeutic effect is unstable. After decades of practice, Our department has proved that the treatment of bromhidrosis with rotary cutter combined with negative pressure suction through small incision 2 is superior to other surgical methods, 14 The use of rotary cutter can not only reduce scar contracture caused by skin scratch, but also reduce recurrence in the removal of sweat glands more thoroughly, and protect subdermal vascular network, it can greatly reduce necrosis, delayed healing, and other complications caused by poor blood supply of skin flap 15 . However, there are still a few possibilities of recurrence in blind operation.…”

“…The combination of small incision, negative pressure suction technology, and high‐speed rotary cutter has been applied because of complete removal of sweat glands, quick recovery, and few complications. It has been proved by our department to be an effective surgical method for removing bromhidrosis, 2 which is called: microdynamic bromhidrosis. However, in the blind operation, there are still some cases that partial removal is incomplete lead to recurrence, and the delayed hemostasis to affect the survival of skin flap.…”

“…Sweat gland destruction ensued through suction using a specialized rotary cutter under negative pressure, followed by meticulous elimination of residual sweat gland tissue with a scraping spoon. 51 Post‐surgery, —four to five micro‐perforations were made for drainage purposes, and —three to five rolls of petroleum jelly gauze were employed for oil tincture application to secure the flap to the subcutaneous tissue. Notably, the utilization of a specialized rotary cutter device offers enhanced precision and ease of operation compared to traditional blunt liposuction cannula suction methods for sweat gland destruction.…”
