Power Cable Fault Locator Based on Synchronization Principle of Sound and Magnetic

Abstract: The synchronization method based on the sound and magnetic makes power cable precise positioning more intuitive in this paper, which based on the pre-positioning of the cable fault an accurate fault location method.First the pulse generator discharges pulse applied to the cable, the fault point will release the sound signal and an electromagnetic signal. But the electromagnetic signal propagation speeds approaching the speed of light instantaneously reaches the point of failure.when the electromagnetic signal i… Show more

“…The weak vibration caused by an electric spark can be measured as a characteristic signal, which can be extracted by vibration sensors or accelerometers [3]. Normally, the weak vibration signal is minute, directional, and low frequency (300~500 Hz) [4].…”

“…Their accuracy is also influenced by electromagnetic induction noise and high currents that include low-frequency components [2]. Instead of testing the electromagnetic effect, the micro vibration caused by the electric spark occurs in the faulty cable could be tested as the feature signal which could be picked up by vibration or acceleration sensor [3]. Commonly, the vibration is micro, directional and low frequency.…”
