Power electronic systems as a crucial part of Smart Grid infrastructure - a survey

Abstract: Abstract. This article gives a tutorial overview of the most important issues related to the use of power electronic systems in power engineering, with respect to the urgent need for modernization of existing grids in the direction of intelligent networks. The main problems and conditions bound up with the construction of Smart Grids and the location, as well as functioning in them of the most important power electronic systems are presented here. Special attention is directed therein to the potential possibil… Show more

“…This converter incorporates medium frequency transformer (MFT), that provides galvanic isolation between circuits, • Low Voltage DC-AC converter (LVC) converts LV DC to LV AC. Presented structure is only one of possible solutions, however, this structure is the most advantageous [2]. Although SST structure is much more complex compared to conventional transformer it may eliminate some of the disadvantages and add a completely new functionality that was not yet available, such as:…”

“…Standardization recommendations concerning instrument transformer do not specify requirements for estimation of their accuracy of distorted signals transformation or to calculate derating conditions [8][9]. Therefore, it is necessary to develop appropriate measuring methodology and standardization recommendations of instrument transformers metrological properties estimation for transformation of distorted signals and to estimate their primary current and/or secondary winding load derating levels in such conditions of operation [6,10]. In publications [11][12][13] and standard [14] problem of derating of transformers for non-sinusoidal load currents is discussed.…”
