Power modulated temperature sensor with inscribed fibre Bragg gratings

Abstract: The Fibre Bragg Grating (FBG) based temperature optical sensor has been designed and demonstrated. FBGs have been modelled and fabricated so as to convert the Bragg wavelength shift into the intensity domain. The main experimental setup consists of a filtering FBG and two scanning FBGs, respectively, left and right scanning FBG, whereby scanning FBGs are symmetrically located on the slopes of the filtering FBG. Such an approach allows for the modulation of power for the propagating optical signal depending on … Show more

“…4 FBG is also widely used in power system due to its strong anti-electromagnetic interference and insulation ability. 5,6 The sensing technology based on FBG is a promising signal measurement method. The FBG sensor recovers the external signal by tracking the displacement of the center wavelength of FBG (e.g., Bragg wavelength).…”

“…Sensor systems using FBGs presented in the literature allow one to measure various parameters, including temperature, humidity, vibration, or strain (Kersey et al 1997;Grattan and Sun 2000;Wild and Richardson 2015;Mądry et al 2016;Bereś-Pawlik and Mądry 2018). Usually, such a measurement uses a single sensor (Wild and Richardson 2015;Mądry et al 2016) and interrogator systems. These interrogators measure the shift of the transmission or reflection spectrum of a FBG under the influence of external factors.…”
