The primary focus of this paper is to analyse the relationship between the level of parenting stress and the sense of empowerment among mothers of children with developmental disorders. Three groups of mothers participated in the study in which mothers raising children with autism were a major group whereas mothers of children with Down syndrome as well as mothers of children developing normally were comparison groups. 119 respondents participated in the study. The shortened version of Questionnaire on Resources and Stress for Families with Chronically Ill or Handicapped Members -QRS and The Empowerment Scale were used for the study purposes. The obtained results indicate a strong correlation between the level of empowerment and the level of parenting stress.
