“…29,30 In addition to reductions in anatomical noise or composite artefacts, DTS provides greater depth and contrast resolution. 7 Our findings for per-patient data showed that the high diagnostic accuracy of DTS is complemented by greater homogeneity and consistency of results compared with chest radiography.…”

“…4,5 Digital tomosynthesis (DTS) is a type of limited-angle tomography that provides continuous coronal images through the area of interest. Because it eliminates overlapping anatomy or composite artefact, DTS facilitates improved lesion detection, depth localization and contrast resolution compared with plain radiography, 6,7 and compared with CT, the cost and radiation dose of DTS are lower. [8][9][10] Therefore, DTS has been recommended by several authors as an alternative to both chest radiography and CT, and the greater diagnostic performance of DTS for detecting pulmonary nodules has been reported.…”

“…Other new outcome measures including a new symptom scale for patients with COPD suitable for daily use;47 a scoring system capable of predicting survival in patients with malignant pleural effusions;48 a lung-transplant specific quality of life score49 and an ultrasonic technique for assessing diaphragmatic thickness and likelihood of successful weaning in patients requiring mechanical ventilation 50. The radiographic pattern of connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease was shown to be heterogeneous by Saketkoo et al 51 Understanding this heterogeneity is a priority before progress can be made with treatment, as is the identification of potential outcome measures.…”

“…igital chest tomosynthesis (DTS) (1) is a modality in the process of validation for imaging of pulmonary nodules (2)(3)(4)(5). Multiple angular radiographic projections provide section images with reduced disturbance from overlapping anatomy and improved visibility of small structures compared with chest radiography at a lower radiation dose and cost than computed tomography (CT) (1,(5)(6)(7)(8)(9)(10). DTS has been suggested (3-13) as a low-dose alternative to CT for lung cancer screening, metastatic surveillance, follow-up of incidental nodules, and mycobacterial disease, and as a way to examine inconclusive findings on chest radiographic images.…”
