A novel cyanide chemosensor based on the conjugated perylene‐benzothiazole conjugated system (PBI) as a colorimetric and fluorometric dual‐channel sensor material was synthesized and characterized its optical properties via UV–Vis and fluorescent spectroscopy methods. The conjugated molecular exhibited a high sensitivity and rapid optical signal response for cyanide anions (CN‐) due to the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) mechanism. The color changing of PBI solution was observed from red‐violet color change to yellow color clearly by the naked eye. In addition, the absorption of PBI has a large blue shift in the presence of CN‐, at the same time the fluorescence emission of PBI solution also exhibited under UV irradiation. The detection limit of PBI to cyanide anion is 1.15×10‐7 M in the mixture of DMSO/H2O (1:1, v/v). Moreover, conjugated molecular PBI demonstrated high selectivity and sensitivity with CN‐ over other common anions, including Cl−, NO2−, NO3−, SCN−, and SO4−. Our results provide a simple and effective approach tracing the toxic CN− ion with rapid response, high selectivity, and sensitivity that is possible applied in environmental control and agricultural management problems.
