The article is devoted to virtual reality technologies and scenarios of their application in distance learning of foreign languages. A generalized experience of application of virtual reality technologies in distance learning of foreign languages is presented; the advantages, risks and deterrents of their introduction into the educational process in educational institutions are highlighted. The features by which technologies can be classified as virtual reality technologies are singled out. Examples of application of the following virtual reality technologies are considered: Mondly VR, VirtualSpeech, Immersive VR Education, AltspaceVR and ClassVR; their brief description, scenarios for use in learning foreign languages, benefits and risks of use are provided. Summarizing the review of these technologies, it was found that the educational content of distance learning of foreign languages through virtual reality can be divided into three groups: “360-degree video”, platforms and sites, interactive programs. Conditions and didactic principles of the effective use of virtual reality technologies during distance learning of foreign languages are generalized. The issue of assessing effectiveness of virtual reality technologies in learning foreign languages is analyzed and identified as debatable and in need of further research. The criteria by which researchers summarize the principles of selection of evaluation criteria are clarified. Perspective directions of future scientific investigations are outlined: research of conditions of intensification and research of scenarios of use of collective intelligence during distance learning of foreign languages through virtual reality.

This research aims to evaluate the learning of mathematics at the college level conducted through distance learning programs during the COVID-19 pandemic in Jakarta. This research is a type of evaluation research using the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) model that is (1) context consists of program background and program planning (2) Inputs include of students readiness, teaching materials, facilities and infrastructures (3) process consisting of teaching methods and constraints in learning, and (4) the product consists of understanding and learning outcomes. Respondents in this study amounted to 155 students spread across five colleges in Jakarta. The instruments used for data collection are unstructured questionnaires and interviews. The validity of the device used is expert judgment. Furthermore, data is analyzed in a descriptive and interpretation to obtain an accurate picture of factual conditions in the field. The results showed that the mathematical learning conducted through distance learning at higher education in Jakarta needs improvement and improvement in quality from various aspects such as preparation, facilities and infrastructure, material materials, and learning methods used in the effort to achieve the objectives of the established differentiation. It based on the evaluation result on the context component; Score value 3.325 with outstanding category, input component; Score 2.86 by good category, process components; Score 2.80 by good grade, and product component; Score 2.26 with the less good group.

Teaching and Learning Arabic as a Second Language: A Case Study of Dubai

Enrolment into Arabic as a second language (ASL) in Dubai has increased steadily due to the high influx of immigrant populations. Although Arabic is the primary language in Dubai mandatory taught in primary schools in Dubai, training and learning face challenges that affect learning a teaching objective. The extant investigation aimed to examine the teaching and learning of ASL in Dubai through exploring the importance of ASL, ALS programs in Dubai, ASL changes and solutions, and the role of technology infusion and motivation in ASL training and learning. The examination utilized a qualitative case study where seven teachers and eight learners were interviewed. The researcher analyzed the data using thematic analysis. The data obtained revealed that ASL is important among non-Arabic natives and immigrants since its improved communication and interaction. The main challenge noted included curriculum shortcomings, inadequate training and learning, poor technology utilization, and insufficient learning times. The findings suggested curriculum review, increase in the technology used in training and learning, and allocation of more time for ASL lessons to curb the challenges. The examinations discuss the policy, practice, and research implications of the findings. Although the findings are insightful in ASL training and learning in Dubai, the researcher recommended extensive research using different methodologies, sample sizes, and other cities in the UAE.
