Pre-licensure examination as predictor of licensure examination for teachers result

Abstract: Licensure examination for teachers (LET) is the major requirement of teachers in the Philippines before practicing teaching profession. As such, it is imperative to monitor necessary parameters to increase passing percentage of teachers in LET. This study attempted to examine the relationship between performance in pre-LET and LET of 71 elementary education (BEEd) and 127 secondary education (BSEd) graduates in one university in the Philippines. Individual and aggregated data were secured from the college of t… Show more

“…Moreover, these results support the findings that enrolling in a review center and review modality are insignificant predictors of passing licensure examinations (Fuente, 2021). Furthermore, the results in this study negate the findings of previous studies, which found that enrolling in a review center significantly increases the probability of an examinee passing the licensure exam (Bansiong, 2019;Fiscal & Roman, 2022). In addition, the findings in this study also negate the findings from another study which found that the type of examinee impacts the licensure examination results (Cahapay & Toquero, 2022).…”

“…A vast number of literature has established specific factors that significantly predict licensure examination performance, such as review mode, type of examinee, and undergraduate academic performance. The review mode in preparation for taking the exam (self-review or enrolling in review centers) is found to significantly predict licensure examination results, such that enrolling at a review center significantly increases the probability of examinees passing licensure examinations (Fiscal & Roman, 2022). Examinee type (first taker or retaker) also significantly influences licensure examination performance (Cahapay & Toquero, 2022).…”

“…Further, the BSEd and BEEd takers in this present study outperformed those in the study of Fiscal and Roman (2022), where the BSEd overall performance was 74.88, and the BEEd overall performance was 72.96. Another comparative study conducted by Maramag et al (2020) revealed that BEEd graduates received a poor rating because their BLEPT mean performance in General Education and Professional Education fell below the passing mark.…”

“…Additionally, Callena (2019) identified a variety of academic attributes, including University admission test ratings, high school and college GPAs, and course grades, as potential predictors, with variations across programs. Roman (2021) focused on the relationship between performance in a pre-licensure examination and the licensure examination for teachers, finding a notable relationship and the ability to predict performance in the latter. Bansiong (2019) analyzed entry-to-exit academic profiles and found that high school GPA, Intelligence Quotient, general scholastic aptitude, and college performance were significant predictors of ratings in the Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers.…”
