Pre‐settlement vegetation maps generated using Ontario early survey: An online database providing enhanced map access for researchers

Abstract

Key Messages Early survey data from Ontario and elsewhere in Canada are vastly under‐utilized research resources. Pre‐settlement vegetation data embedded in early survey notes provide reliable baseline data sets for vegetation mapping. Existing vegetation maps derived from early survey data are largely unknown and inaccessible, but are now inventoried and available online through the University of Waterloo Library's Geospatial Centre.
