Precise Orbit Determination and Maneuver Assessment for TH-2 Satellites Using Spaceborne GPS and BDS2 Observations

Abstract: The TH-2 satellite system, including the TH-2A and TH-2B, is the first distributed interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) satellite system in China. During the in-orbit operation, the TH-2A satellite should perform three maneuvers per day to keep the formation flying geometry. We estimate those maneuvers in the precise orbit determination (POD) by the GPS and BDS2 measurements on board, respectively. The residuals of the POD show that the effects caused by orbital maneuvers can be well eliminated for… Show more

“…The P2 code noises are bigger than that of C1 code, and the average RMS of the code noises is 0.24 m and 0.30 m for C1 and P2 codes, respectively. The level of code noises is equivalent to the Chinese Tiangong-2, TH-2 [28] and TianQin-1 [29] satellites, but significantly better than that of the APOD-A satellite [15] for the P2 code. The carrier phase accuracy is assessed using L1-L2 combinations.…”

“…The emergence of bistatic InSAR (BiInSAR) configurations, wherein two formation-flying satellites act as a single-pass radar interferometer, offers a novel and flexible approach to radar imaging, with distinct advantages over traditional repeat-pass interferometry [6,7]. Notable examples include the TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X system developed by the German Aerospace Center [8][9][10], the TH-2 system developed by China [7,11], and the TwinSAR-L system developed by China [12][13][14].…”
