A detailed discussion is given of the analysis of recent data to obtain improved upper bounds on the couplings |Ue4| 2 and |Uµ4| 2 for a mainly sterile neutrino mass eigenstate ν4. Using the excellent agreement among Ft values for superallowed nuclear beta decay, an improved upper limit is derived for emission of a ν4. The agreement of the ratios of branching ratios R (π) e/µ = BR(π + → e + νe)/BR(π + → µ + νµ), R (K) e/µ , R (Ds) e/τ , R (Ds) µ/τ , and R (D)e/τ , and the branching ratios BR(B + → e + νe) and BR(B + → µ + νµ) decays with predictions of the Standard Model, is utilized to derive new constraints on ν4 emission covering the ν4 mass range from MeV to GeV. We also discuss constraints from peak search experiments probing for emission of a ν4 via lepton mixing, as well as constraints from pion beta decay, CKM unitarity, µ decay, leptonic τ decay, and other experimental inputs.

The annihilation of a lepton pair into a proton-antiproton pair, and the reverse process, allow for a measurement of the timelike proton form factors. This work aims at studying the corrections due to direct soft interactions between the proton and the antiproton before their annihilation or after their creation. The analysis is carried on in the spacetime formalism used by us in a series of recent works on timelike FFs. In particular the effect ofpp annihilation into many-meson states is considered. We expect it to determine similar real and imaginary parts for the form factor near thē pp channel threshold. We also discuss the possibility that the timelike FF differ by a phase in the hadron pair production and annihilation.PACS numbers:

The electromagnetic form factors are fundamental observables that parametrise the electric and magnetic structure of hadrons and provide a key to the strong interaction. The Beijing Spectrometer (BESIII) is located at the Beijng Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII), a symmetric e + e − collider running at center-of-mass energies between 2.0 and 4.6 GeV. This wide energy range allows the measurement of electromagnetic form factors both from direct e + e − annihilation and from initial-state radiation processes. Based on 157 pb −1 of data collected at center-of-mass energies between 2.23 and 3.67 GeV, BESIII published results on the channel e + e − → pp. More recently, preliminary results from the analysis of the initial-state radiation process e + e − → ppγ based on 7.41 fb −1 of data have also been released. Besides nucleons, all hyperons in the SU(3) spin 1/2 octet and spin 3/2 decuplet are energetically accessible at BESIII. Preliminary results from the e + e − → ΛΛ channel and the e + e − → ΛcΛc channel from the charmed sector are already available. Furthermore, a world-leading data sample for precision measurements of baryon form factors was collected in 2015. This data will enable the measurement of baryon electromagnetic form factors with unprecedented accuracy.
