Preclinical and clinical effects of Coleus forskohlii, Salacia reticulata and Sesamum indicum modifying pancreatic lipase inhibition in vitro and reducing total body fat

Abstract: Available online A B S T R A C TThe herbal composition of Coleus forskohlii, Salacia reticulata, and Sesamum indicum, standardized for forskolin, mangiferin, and sesamin, respectively, were shown, in vitro, to inhibit pancreatic lipase with differing degrees and dynamics. In the placebo controlled six weeks clinical study the daily intake of 1000 mg C. forskohlii stand-alone standardized for 10% forskolin, showed statistically significant lowering of total body fat vs. baseline and placebo group (p < 0.05).The… Show more

“…Extracts of the seeds of S. indicum have also been shown to modulate lipid metabolism (Biswas et al, 2010;Asgary et al, 2013). As noted earlier, the combination of forskolin with extracts of S. reticulata and S. indicum (FB 3 ) have been shown to work synergistically with respect to prevention of dietary fat absorption decreasing body fat content (Badmaev et al, 2015).…”

“…PTL hydrolyzes lipids into monoglycerols and free fatty acids in the duodenum, which are then packed into micelle and absorbed into the lymphatic system through lacteals. Blocking of PTL with tetrahydrolipstatin has been utilized in the management of obesity, however has reported several side effects ( Badmaev et al, 2015 ). S. indicum extract (70%) has been found to inhibit the action of PTL by 15% at 1 µg/mL and 17.5% at 100 µg/mL, suggesting that it may possess weight reducing properties ( Badmaev et al, 2015 ).…”

“…1), which was dependent not only on the starting material but also on the phenolic fraction examined. Lipases play an important role in the absorption of triacylglycerols [13,44] which is related to body weight management and obesity. The latter one is associated with metabolic syndrome and heart disease.…”
