Precoding design and user selection for multibeam satellite channels

Abstract: Abstract-Precoding for the downlink of a multibeam satellite system has been recently shown, under ideal conditions, to be promising technique towards employing aggressive frequency reuse gainfully. However, time varying phase uncertainties imposed by the components and the channel, combined with delayed feedback perturbs the channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). In this paper, we consider a power constrained robust formulation of the downlink precoding problem to counter the phase uncertainties… Show more

“…In remote and non‐land areas, the terminal distribution shows microaggregation and macroparsity, modelled terminals according to the beam range radius. Furthermore, the N terminal positions are assumed to obey the Poisson point process (PPP) for the random distribution, as same as [34]. In each timeslot, terminals are divided into satellite‐service terminals (SSTs), ABS‐service terminals (ASTs), and un‐service terminals (UTs).…”

“…As in [7], only one user per beam can be served. In this case, the optimal performance can be obtained by using best link selection (BLS), which selects the user with the maximum received SNR for time-varying channels [38], or the fairness can be guaranteed by using random link selection (RLS) that randomly selects users [38], [39]. However, the latest SatCom standards consider multicast system that serves multiple users simultaneously in each beam, such as [8], [10], [33].…”
