“…While such children appear to function within normal ranges on developmental assessments and on social-emotional measures (e.g., responsitivity, activity, mood) in their first year of life, they begin to show signs of social-emotional difficulties by the end of their first year and a decline in other developmental trajectories thereafter (Borkowski et al, 2002; Furstenberg et al, 1987; Moore, Morrison, & Greene, 1997; Whitman et al, 2001).
