“…Based on the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes prediction, the relative abundance of microbial functional abilities showed some differences between fish kairomone‐treated and control groups at any detection sites, and the differences are associated with the predation risk (Xie et al., 2022; Zha et al., 2018). In the present study, the functional abundance of the gut microbiota in the presence of fish kairomone decreased most significantly compared with that in the control.…”

“…As to whether the presence of predator affects prey-associated microbiota, first, predator kairomone can induce prey responses that fall under the category of the nerve and immune systems, which play important roles in regulating microbial communities (Candela et al, 2012;Forsythe et al, 2012), and, second, predators affect the availability of food resources to prey, while the quality and quantity of diet in the host environment are important factors that affect the host gut microbiota (Callens et al, 2016;Zha et al, 2018). Recently, Xie et al (2022) found that the most abundant genus Neisseria in the gut of Mytilus coruscus fell with the presence of the predator, while the pathogen Arcobacter increased with predator presence. Zha et al (2018) found that the abundance of Fusobacteria in the gut of Perca fluviatilis increased both at the lowest food ration and at predation stress conditions.…”

“…One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze population differences with a significance level of P < 0.05. Using the “ggtern” and “ggplot2” packages, a ternary plot was utilized to demonstrate the relative relationship and distribution of the dominating species (>0.5% in at least one sample) between the three seasons ( Xie et al, 2022 ). We utilized SourceTracker to determine the fraction of the frog’s gut microbial community in one season that originated from other seasons.…”

“…Nevertheless, there remains a dearth of research concerning the involvement of small Mafs in the thick shell mussel M. coruscus, a crucial model organism in marine environmental studies. M. coruscus is primarily distributed in the Yellow Sea and East China Sea, adopting a lifestyle of attachment and filter feeding [21,22]. As they inhabit coastal areas prone to pollution, pollutants accumulate in various tissues, potentially leading to disrupted ROS metabolism [23].…”
