Predatory mites of the Phytoseiidae family in integrated and ecological pest management systems in orchards in Slovakia

Abstract: During 2005-2007, 1,332 individuals of predatory mites were found in integrated and ecological orchards in Slovakia. Seven predatory mite species of the family Phytoseiidae, namely Phytoseius echinus, Phytoseiulus macropilis, Euseius finlandicus, Typhlodromus pyri, Paraseiulus triporus, Amblyseius andersoni and Neoseiulella tiliarum, were identified. Out of 1,332 individuals, 519 (39.0%) were found in the apple orchards and 813 (61.0%) in the pear orchards. Out of all predatory mite individuals, 460 (34.5%) we… Show more

“…pyri of building up resistance to pesticides, even to those compounds that cause high mortality rates such as pyrethroids or organophosphorous insecticides (Overmeer and van Zon 1983 ; Vidal and Kreiter 1995 ; Bonafos et al 2007 ), gives the opportunity to use the predatory mite in integrated pest management (IPM) conduced in nurseries. Although most authors consider E. finlandicus to be quite sensitive to pesticides (Tuovinen and Rokx 1991 ; Zacharda 2001 ), it was reported as dominant in the Phytoseiidae complex in organic (Szabó et al 2014 ), ecological and IPM orchards (Praslicka et al 2009 ). Moreover, the advantage of E. finlandicus is the ability to develop on alternative food like pollen.…”

“…Atualmente são conhecidas mais de 2.250 espécies de fitoseídeos em todo o mundo, das quais cerca de 140 já foram reportadas no Brasil (Moraes et al 2004). Os fitoseídeos são amplamente reconhecidos como eficientes agentes utilizados em programas de controle biológico de pragas no Brasil e no mundo Moraes e Flechtmann, 2008;Praslièka et al, 2009)…”
