Gastrointestinal stromal tumours are mesenchymal‐origin tumours previously misclassified as leiomyosarcomas in dogs. They are uncommon in dogs; however, their prevalence may have been underestimated. The systemic effects of gastrointestinal stromal tumours in dogs need to be better understood. This case report describes the systemic complications and treatment of a dog with paraneoplastic hypoglycaemia and transient hyperglycaemia caused by gastrointestinal stromal tumours.
