Predicting Potential Habitat Distribution of Sorrel (Rumex vesicarius L.) in India from Presence-Only Data Using Maximum Entropy Model

Abstract: Sorrel (Rumex vesicarius L.) is an underutilized, underexploited, traditional, valuable medicinal and vegetable herb. It is wildly distributed as an environmental weed and is sparsely cultivated in market and truck gardens as a minor leafy vegetable crop in south India. Concerning nutritional and health security of developing country like India, increasing production either by introducing its cultivation in non-traditional areas or by enhancing its productivity can be an important issue in near future. It is, … Show more

“…The selected bioclimatic variables were added to the above described environmental and edaphic predictors and a new set of 10 bootstrap MaxEnt models was generated optimizing the process to maximum 5,000 iterations and 10,000 background points and setting the model convergence threshold to 0.0001. The model evaluation was performed choosing as test data the 30% of the sampling points through an iterative random seed bootstrap process for each model run ( Nguyen et al, 2021 ; Reddy et al, 2015 ; Préau et al, 2018 ). A stepwise process of model selection was then performed by comparing AUC values, permutation importance of variables and jackknife AUC test results.…”

“…Polygonum is heterogeneous complex taxonomically with various floras treatment as number of genera had been added or removed like Persicaria, Moreover, this species has a medical benefit to treat dysentery with bloody stools, UTI, bacteremia, endocarditis and meningitis (19,20,22 The phenotypic shape of the fruits and seeds in each species have observed beside that, the external features of the surface sculpturing of fruits and seeds by anatomical microscope have studied and recorded all the observations and measurements differences of selected species from family polygonaceae. Generally 5 samples were examined for each species according to their availability in the lab.…”
