Predicting required licensed spectrum for the future considering big data growth

Abstract: This paper proposes a new spectrum forecasting (SF) model to estimate the spectrum demands for future mobile broadband (MBB) services. The model requires five main input metrics, that is, the current available spectrum, site number growth, mobile data traffic growth, average network utilization, and spectrum efficiency growth. Using the proposed SF model, the future MBB spectrum demand for Malaysia in 2020 is forecasted based on the input market data of four major mobile telecommunication operators represented… Show more

“…2 1. The RSRP is considered in Algorithm (1) while SINR is the criteria of HO decision in Algorithm (2). Algorithm (3) provides the cost function-based method where C n represents the evaluation for network n. Algorithm (4) addresses the bandwidth criteria where P r is the unnecessary HO probability.…”

“…Several entities across the globe are continuously tracking and forecasting the global MBB data traffic to analyse its growth trends, which is crucial for MBB service providers [1,2]. For instance, the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast Update released in February 2019 had reported informative figures that reflect the dynamic effect of networking applications on global networks [3].…”
