Predicting the Cost Outcome of Construction Quality Problems Using Case-Based Reasoning (CBR)

Abstract: Quality problems are crucial in construction projects since poor quality might lead to delays, low productivity, and cost overruns. In case preventive actions are absent, a lack of quality results in a chain of problems. As a solution, this study deals with non-conformities proactively by adopting an AI-based predictive model approach. The main objective of this study is to provide an automated solution structured on the data recording system for the adverse impacts of construction quality failures. For this p… Show more

“…This method is more cost-effective, flexible, and time-saving than a Delphi-based AHP method, and it is more easily understood and accepted by local experts with busy schedules. However, it is acknowledged that a Delphi-based AHP method could be a more rigorous, transparent, and credible method for aggerating the opinions of experts with diverse backgrounds, because it involves multiple rounds of factor rating and takes into account the whole expert panel's responses and feedback, until reaching a consensus [135][136][137]. Therefore, if time and resources permit, a Delphi-based AHP method is highly recommended for future studies to quantify the relative importance of the external factors, which can help to increase the reliability and validity of the findings.…”

“…CBR is used to solve new problems by looking for similar historical cases and using specific knowledge from existing experience or results, that is, specific cases [41,42]. Also, it is a method of relying on past successful experiences to reason about the solution to the case.…”

“…Building Approval (PBG) is a mandatory step to ensure construction compliance with applicable regulations. [4] Knowing the factors that influence deviations in building structures contained in the Building Construction Permit (PBG) Fadlun 1 , ETJ Volume 09 Issue 02 February 2024 is the aim of this research also and to find out the factors that most influence construction non-conformity with Building Approval Documents (PBG)…”
