“…The researchers also discouraged the establishment of an ego-involving climate in which success was defined in an other-referenced manner as outperforming and defeating others. A masteryinvolving climate has been linked to lower anxiety and greater enjoyment in many studies in both educational and sport settings, and an ego-involving climate to higher levels of performance anxiety (Ames, 1992;Papaioannou & Kouli, 1999;Walling, Duda, & Chi, 1993;Yoo, 2003;Vazou, Ntoumanis, & Duda, 2006).…”

“…Furthermore, other researchers (e.g., Moran & Weiss, 2006;Vazou et al, 2006) have found age, gender, and age-by-gender differences in regard to peer influences and peer leadership characteristics in the youth sport domain. Thus, to avoid the possibility of gender and/or age confounds, the sample of participants for the current study was limited to female athletes at a particular developmental timepoint.…”

“…This research began with the development and psychometric assessment of the Peer Motivational Climate Scale (PeerMCYSQ) Vazou, Ntoumanis, & Duda, 2005). In a subsequent study, Vazou and associates (Vazou, Ntoumanis, & Duda, 2006) administered a series of self-report questionnaires to a large sample of young athletes (12 to 17 years of age) in order to assess their perceptions of the motivational climate as created or initiated by both their coaches and their peers and to measure the athletes' own levels of enjoyment, trait anxiety, sport commitment, and physical self-esteem. Hierarchical regression analyses procedures revealed, as expected, that the type of motivational climate created by coaches exerted a significant effect on their athletes' psychosocial health and well-being.…”

“…Asimismo, pensamos que otra limitación que posee nuestro trabajo y que ya ha sido postulada por otros autores (Vazou et al, 2006), es la valoración de los climas motivacionales reales, que transmiten padres, compañeros y entrenador, no la percepción de los deportistas. Consideramos que esta puede ser una prospectiva de futuro interesante, aunque difícil de llevar a cabo por la falta de instrumentos que permitan valorar el clima motivacional a partir de la observación.…”
