Prediction Models for Bioavailability of Mn, Cu, Zn, Ni and Pb in Soils of Republic of Serbia

Abstract: The bioavailability of trace elements (TEs) is one of the major factors for successful plant production and environmental protection. The aim of this study was to determine the extent to which TEs are bioavailable and which of the basic soil parameters affect bioavailability. The survey included agricultural soil samples taken from 240 locations on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, where the soil analytics were carried out. On the basis of the analyzed data the prediction models were derived based on th… Show more

“…Moreover, DTPA Pb correlates quite well with DTPA Cu, Ni and Zn fractions. This indicates that soil properties, such as pH, eCEC, texture and amount of aluminum and iron forms, determine the bioavailability of the four elements [58], even when considering soils developed over different parent materials. Table 3.…”

“…In addition, factors like soil pH, dissolved organic matter, ionic strength or the nature and number of different metals present also influence the extent of the adsorption capacity of soils [5,[8][9][10][11][12]. The mineral and organic colloidal particles of the solid phase are the most active soil components in the adsorption processes [3,5,[13][14][15][16] nevertheless, their high heterogeneity and variability among soils makes their exact role during heavy metal adsorption remains not clearly understood.…”

“…The ALIPS9 hydrogel showed an increase in Zn release with time, while ALIG30@20 showed stable levels ( Table 2 ). The increase in Zn release in ALIPS9 and ALIG30@10 could also be related to pH changes in the formulation with time, although the literature results are contradictory [ 63 ]. Regarding safety and regulations, Zn did possess a defined PDE level in the Q3D(R1) [ 32 ] (13,000 μg/day for both oral and parenteral routes).…”
