Prediction of and differences in computer use: universal adoption of notebook computers at three undergraduate institutions

Abstract: The research in this study was applied to the innovation of notebook computers on university campuses. The computers were distributed to all fulltime faculty and some part-time facility at three, four-year, undergraduate institutions of higher education. The first institution, Valley City State University (VCSU), had 54 full-time faculty and approximately 1100 students. The faculty received the notebooks in February of 1996. The second institution, Mawille State University (MaSU), had 37 full-time faculty and … Show more

“…The measurement scales of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and behavioural intention were adapted from TAM (Davis, 1989). For the actual use measurement scale, a self‐report measure of the level use of learning objects in terms of frequency of learning objects used, number of hours in using learning objects and number used weekly were adopted for this study (Corwin, 1998; Wallace, 1998). The Internet experience measurement scale was measured by asking three items with regard to past experiences and performances with computer and Internet connection (Stone & Henry, 1998; Venkatesh & Davis, 2000).…”

“…A review of the literature was used to identify existing measures for variables and they were rewritten as necessary to fit the context of this study. The measurement items for learning object use 26, perceived usefulness of different learning aids 24,26, perceived benefit of learning object 25,27, actual use of learning objects 28,29, and open‐ended question 25,30 to collect the experiences and views of learners were adapted from previous literature studies.…”
