Abstract:Abstract-Current video coding techniques use a Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) to reduce spatial correlations within the motion estimation residual. Often the correlation cannot be completely eliminated leaving the transform coefficients statistically dependent. The presented paper proposes a method to predict these coefficients on a block level by using the distribution of the prediction error variance to improve coding efficiency. First experiments lead to a reduction in bit rate by 1.83% when compared to th… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
