Prediction of partial nephrectomy outcomes by using the diameter‐axis‐polar nephrometry score

Abstract: Abbreviations & AcronymsObjectives: To evaluate the utility of diameter-axis-polar nephrometry score to evaluate partial nephrectomy outcomes. Methods: Renal tumors of 127 patients with a functional contralateral kidney who underwent partial nephrectomy were scored using the diameter-axis-polar and R.E.N.A.L nephrometry scores. The mean tumor diameter was 2.9 cm (range 1.0-8.0 cm) and warm ischemic time was 27.3 min (range 12-46 min). All patients underwent 99m Tc-mercaptoacetyltriglycine renal scintigraphy pr… Show more

“…In patients with a healthy contralateral kidney, therefore, WIT limited to 40 min might be allowable for preservation of chronic kidney function . There was no direct association between WIT and late renal function in the reports by Simmons and Maeda et al ., which could be because their series included only small numbers of patients with WIT exceeding 40 min.…”

“…they demonstrated that DaP sum score was normally distributed, while no normal distribution was noted for r.e.n.a.l score or its components [16]. However, external validation of DaP nephrometry was not sufficiently performed [23,24]. and DaP nephrometry itself has no information about the anatomic location of tumor, while r.e.n.a.l nephrometry can include detail anatomic characteristics of tumor (i.e., anterior/posterior, nearness to the collecting system or touching the main vessels).…”

“…proposed the DAP by integrating the optimized attributes of the RENAL and C‐index scoring systems with simplified methodology and decreased measurement error . Reports have compared DAP with RENAL and found a better association of DAP with WIT and postoperative renal function outcomes . However, these reports included patients receiving open, laparoscopic and robotic approaches.…”
