Prediction of Pitching Motions and Loads of an Articulated Loading Platform in Waves

Abstract: This paper presents an analysis of motions and loads of an articulated loading platform (ALP) in regular waves, without a tanker moored to it.Evaluation of hydrodynamic loads in the study employs the Newman slender body theory for a spar buoy.With the assumption of pure wave effect and linearity, the pitching motions of the ALP and axial and shear loads at the universal joint have been calculated.An attempt has been made to compare the calculated results with pvailable experiment data which were obtained from … Show more
