Prediction of Post spinal anesthesia hypotension in patients undergoing cesarean section using Perfusion index

Abstract: Introduction: Spinal anesthesia induced hypotension frequently complicates Cesarean delivery. This is usually due to sudden sympatholysis causing decreased venous return which can be aggravated by physiological changes of pregnancy leading to change in baseline peripheral vascular tone. Strategies to prevent hypotensive episodes should be the primary aim of anesthetic management. A simple noninvasive measurement of perfusion index derived from pulse oximeter predicting hypotension during the routine intraopera… Show more

“…This analysis is essential to determine the need for prophylactic vasopressors. In a recent study by Pyakurel K et al [19], SBP was significantly different between both groups at 5-8 minutes post administration of spinal anaesthesia. We also tried to find the correlation of baseline PI with change in SBP at different time points and found it correlates significantly at 2nd, 6th, 10th, and 12th minutes post-spinal administration.…”

“…To calculate the pooled sensitivity and specificity for predicting hypotension development, 12 studies were included in the analysis [15,17,18,[22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30]. A summary of the definition of hypotension is presented in Table 1.…”

“…Subsequently, a detailed examination of full-text articles resulted in the exclusion of 14 studies. Ultimately, 12 studies successfully satisfied the established criteria and were included in the review [15,17,18,[22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30]. The characteristics of the 11 studies involving 2009 patients are summarized in Table 1.…”
