Building and, especially, reconstruction and repairs of highways, call for the development of stone materials manufacturing industry. Increasing need for stone materials may be satisfied by a wide use of industrial waste and secondary resources. In road building, slag of ferrous and nonferrous metallurgy is one of the most popular wastes which are increasingly widespread with every year. Such slag is a valuable raw material for preparation of macadam materials and mineral binders serving as a base for asphalt concrete mixtures and manufacturing of cement emulsions, which are widely used in road paving. The research focused on the use of different types of slag in road construction in Ukraine. Possibilities of using crushed rock and sand as recrement slag of different production for preparation of asphalt concrete and cement mixtures to be used for road-base was studied, as well as the use of slag materials for construction of lower category roads. In the given work, the opportunity to recycle electric furnace steel-smelting slag for preparation of asphalt concrete mixtures was defined.

Abstract. When exposed to destructive climate and weather factors and heavy vehicle loads, the pavement wears and deflects. In recent decades, apart from cracks and potholes, the depth of ruts grows and makes an increasing share of the pavement surface. The deeper are the tracks, the poorer are traffic conditions for fast-moving cars: drivers are struggling, speed is decreasing and the number of accidents is increasing. After track depth reaches a critical and permissible limit, the road surface must be repaired or speed limit has to be reduced. The work presents a theoretical analysis of track emergence causes and factors determining their depth. With the help of Mobile Road Research Laboratory RST 28, the track depth of all Lithuanian highways has been measured every 20 metres. The obtained data have been processed using the methods of mathematical statistics. Each road has a sample average of every rut, sample standard deviation and a coefficient of individually measured variation. The paper has drawn histograms, calculated skewness, kurtosis and normal distribution and provided lognormal distribution curves of a probability density function. The visualisation and empirical skewness and kurtosis values have revealed that the depth of the rut distributes according to lognormal rather than normal distribution. The average values of the roads having a dividing strip and standard deviations from the distribution across the road have been received. The given dependence of the rut depth of a standard deviation on the averages of rut depth shows an elastic interface of these parameters (determination coefficient R 2 0 0.741).

Th e magnitude 7.6 Chi-Chi Taiwan in 1999 and the magnitude 7.9 Sichuan China in 2008 earthquakes caused many building damage and collapse, and a large amount of waste concrete caused many environmental problems. Th is study evaluates crushed waste concrete used as aggregate for stone mastic asphalt. On the basis of this study, the ANOVA of the permanent deformation test shows that the type of aggregate has a signifi cant eff ect at test temperature of 60 °C, but not signifi cantly aff ect at 25 °C. Th us, the ability of permanent deformation resistance of the crushed waste concrete mixture is better than that of 100% virgin crush stone mixture. Th e stability values of the crushed waste concrete mixtures are higher than the 100% crush stone mixture, especially in 50% crushed waste concrete plus 50% crush stone and coarse crush stone plus fi ne crushed waste concrete (C-crush stone plus F-crushed waste concrete). Th e stone mastic asphalt mixed with 50% crushed waste concrete plus 50% crush stone are more practicable for use than others.
