This paper proposes an economic benefit evaluation model of distributed energy storage system considering multi-type custom power services. Firstly, based on the four-quadrant operation characteristics of the energy storage converter, the control methods and revenue models of distributed energy storage system to provide reactive power compensation, new energy consumption, peak-valley arbitrage and other customized power services are analyzed. Secondly, an economic benefit evaluation model of custom power services is formulated, considering the life cycle degradation cost, investment payback period, net present value, and internal return rate of energy storage. Finally, demonstrate the effectiveness and superior performance of the proposed methodology through comparative studies on the economic benefits and practical value. The influence of reserve capacity ratio of energy storage converter, additional price for power quality management, peak-valley price difference, battery cost and project cycle on the annual return and internal rate of return is revealed through the sensitivity analysis, which provides the decision-making reference for battery selection and capacity allocation of distributed energy storage system participating in various custom power services.

Model predictive direct power control (MPDPC) strategy offers numerous benefits over the traditional control strategies in active power filters (APF). However, the real-time execution duration (RTED) reduction of model predictive control in multilevel inverters is a big challenge. In this paper, an improved low-computation model predictive direct power control strategy for three-level four-leg APF (TL-FL-APF) is presented. First, based on generalized instantaneous reactive power theory, a new predictive power model for TL-FL-APF is established. Then, in order to reduce the RTED, classical multiple power predictions are converted into single voltage prediction through the principle of deadbeat control, and the optimized vector range is reduced from 81 to 4–18 by the method of spatial stratification using the γ-component of reference voltage vector. Finally, simulation and experimental results demonstrate that proposed low-computation MPDPC has excellent performance.

The electrical grid integration takes great attention because of the increasing population in the nonlinear load connected to the power distribution system. This manuscript deals with the power quality issues and mitigations associated with the electrical grid. The proposed single comprehensive artificial neural network (SCANN) controller with unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) is modelled in MATLAB Simulink environment. It provides series and shunt compensation that helps mitigate voltage and current distortion at the end of the distribution system. Initially, four proportional integral (PI) controllers are used to control the UPQC. Later the trained SCANN controller replaces four PI Controllers for better control action. PI and SCANN controllers' simulation results are compared to find the optimal solutions. A prototype model of SCANN controller is constructed and tested. The test results show that the SCANN based UPQC maintains grid voltage and current magnitude within permissible limits under fluctuating conditions.
